A template for environmental engineers who protect and restore natural environments.
Environmental engineers design solutions to environmental problems — water and wastewater treatment systems, contaminated land remediation, air quality monitoring, waste management infrastructure, and environmental impact assessments. They work in consultancies, water utilities, local authorities, oil and gas companies, and construction firms, reporting to a project manager or technical director. A typical week involves site investigations, data analysis, writing environmental statements, attending planning meetings, and liaising with the Environment Agency or equivalent regulatory body. No two projects are the same.
Chartered Environmental Engineer (CIWEM) with 6 years of experience in contaminated land, environmental impact assessment, and flood risk management. Delivered EIA for 10+ major infrastructure projects. Specialist in Phase I/II site assessments.
Environmental Engineer CVs must show your Chartered status (CEnv), EIA experience, and specialist area. Include the types and scale of projects and your regulatory knowledge (EA, SEPA, DEFRA).
CEnv (CIWEM/SiLC), EIA, contaminated land (Phase I/II), flood risk assessment, GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS), remediation design, SEPA/EA regulations, and drainage strategy.
Not specifying the project types and scale. Offshore wind EIA and residential brownfield remediation require very different expertise. State project values and types clearly.
One to two pages. Lead with CEnv status and specialist area. Include a Key Projects section listing project type, client sector, and your specific contributions.
Figures in USD. Ranges reflect mid-level experience (3–7 years). Senior roles and major metro areas typically sit at the top of these bands.
Arcadis, Atkins, Ramboll, Thames Water, and local authority environmental teams all employ environmental engineers. Arcadis and Ramboll are global consultancies that value EIA experience, multi-disciplinary project exposure, and working towards Chartered Environmentalist or CEng status. Atkins and Jacobs hire environmental engineers for infrastructure projects and want strong technical report writing and client-facing skills. Thames Water and other utilities value operational environmental management and regulatory compliance experience. Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) through IEMA or Chartered status via CIWEM is consistently valued — list the stage you're at even if not yet fully chartered.
