Unlike most web applications, FreeCV.org stores all your CV data locally on your device. We don't have servers storing your personal information because we never collect it in the first place. Your data is yours, always.
Overview
FreeCV.org ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our free CV builder service at freecv.org (the "Service").
The short version: We don't collect your personal data. Your CV information is stored locally on your device using your browser's local storage feature. We have no access to this data, and it never touches our servers.
Information We Don't Collect
Unlike most online services, we've designed FreeCV.org to function without collecting your personal information. We do NOT collect:
- Personal identifiers: No names, email addresses, phone numbers, or addresses
- CV content: Your resume information, work history, education, skills, etc.
- Account information: We don't have accounts, so there's nothing to collect
- Payment information: Our service is free; we never ask for payment details
- Photos or images: Profile photos you upload stay on your device only
Why don't we collect data?
We believe the best way to protect your privacy is to never have your data in the first place. By storing everything locally, we eliminate the risks of data breaches, unauthorized access, and misuse of your information.
Local Storage
When you use FreeCV.org, your CV data is saved using your browser's local storage feature. This means:
- Your data is stored on your device, not on our servers
- Only you have access to your CV information
- Your data persists between sessions (you can return and continue editing)
- Clearing your browser data will remove your saved CV
- Your CV data is not synced across devices
How to Delete Your Local Data
You have complete control over your data. To delete it:
- Use the "Reset" button in our CV builder to clear your current CV
- Clear your browser's local storage for freecv.org
- Use your browser's "Clear browsing data" feature
Third-Party Services
We use a minimal number of third-party services to deliver our website:
- Google Fonts: To display typography. Google may collect anonymous usage data.
- CDN Services: To deliver JavaScript libraries (like PDF generation). These services may log access requests.
We do not share any personal information with third parties because we don't collect any in the first place.
Your Privacy Rights
Since we don't collect personal data, traditional data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) work differently:
- Right to Access: Your data is on your device; you already have full access
- Right to Deletion: You control deletion via your browser settings
- Right to Portability: Download your CV as PDF anytime
- Right to Restriction: You control all data processing locally
For users in the European Union, we comply with GDPR by design — our architecture ensures we never process personal data on our servers.
Security
Our security approach is simple: we can't lose or expose data we don't have. By keeping all personal information on your device:
- There's no central database to breach
- No user data can be leaked from our servers
- Your CV information is as secure as your own device

For EU consumers, the European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are not obligated to and do not participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Your GDPR Rights
If you're in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland, GDPR gives you a set of rights over your personal data. Most of them don't apply to FreeCV in the traditional sense because most of your data never reaches our servers. But for the parts that do (account sign-in, PRO purchases, cloud-saved CVs), here's the full picture:

How to exercise any of these: email info@freecv.org with subject "GDPR Request — [name of the right]". Free of charge unless your request is repetitive or excessive. We answer within 30 days as required by Art. 12(3), and we'll ask for proof of identity before we delete or hand over anything sensitive.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. The most actionable one for FreeCV is the opt-out from "sharing" of personal information, because our use of Google AdSense for cross-context behavioral advertising counts as sharing under the CPRA definition.
You can:
- Know what categories of personal info we collect, where it comes from, and who we share it with
- Access the specific personal info we have about you
- Delete your personal info, with some exceptions for legal compliance
- Correct any inaccurate personal info
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal info for advertising
- Limit use of sensitive personal information
- Non-discrimination, meaning we can't degrade your service if you exercise any of these rights
Opt out in 10 seconds
To opt out of "sharing" for advertising, head to Your Privacy Choices. We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal automatically, so if you've already turned it on, you're already opted out.
For other rights, email info@freecv.org with subject "CCPA Request". We verify identity by matching the email against our records. Response within 45 days, extendable to 90 if the request is genuinely complex.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Major changes that affect your rights will be prominently announced on our website.
