Resume builder with no subscription:
what every builder really charges

Most resume builders are subscriptions wearing a $1.95 disguise. This page lists the real renewal price of each one, explains the four-week trick, and shows the one builder with no subscription at all.

Renewal price on FreeCV

FreeCV is a resume builder with no subscription. The builder, the AI assistant, 20 templates and the PDF download are free, with no account and no trial. The only thing FreeCV sells is PRO Lifetime, $19 once: one payment, no renewal, no expiry, and a 24-hour refund.

Most of the category works the other way round. Zety, Resume.io, MyPerfectResume and Resume Genius let you build for free and charge at the download: a $1.95 to $2.95 trial that converts to $23.95 to $29.95 every four weeks. Four-week billing means 13 charges a year, so a plan that reads like $26 a month costs about $337.

Two paid builders deserve a fair mention. Novoresume sells fixed periods that never renew. Kickresume is a normal subscription with the cheapest yearly plan in this list. Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 2 September 2026.

What each resume builder charges after the first payment

The first price is what you see at checkout. The second is what you pay next. The third is a year.

How the four-week plan works

Three mechanics, each legal, each designed so that the price you noticed is not the price you pay.

01

The low first payment

You see $1.95 or $2.95 and read it as the price. It is a trial. The real price appears in the small print under the button and in the renewal email.

02

Four weeks, not a month

The plan renews every 28 days. That is 13 renewals a year. A "monthly" $25.95 becomes about $337, one extra charge that no monthly plan would make.

03

Cancel with steps

Cancellation lives in the account settings and often passes through discount and pause offers before it confirms. Keep going until the confirmation email arrives, and keep that email.

FreeCV has no first payment, no renewal and nothing to cancel. That is verifiable in 30 seconds at freecv.org/builder.

How to check any resume builder in 60 seconds

Five things to look at before you type your first job title into anything.

Find the download row

On the pricing page, look for the word Download. If the free column says TXT, "build only" or nothing at all, the PDF is paid.

Read the line under the button

The renewal price and period sit under the trial price. "Every 4 weeks" means 13 charges a year.

Press Download before you invest time

Add one line and press Download. A card form, an email wall or a text-only file tells you everything.

Look for the cancel button

A builder that means well shows cancellation in account settings, in one or two clicks, with a confirmation email.

Check for a watermark

Open the downloaded PDF. A "made with" footer means the free file is a demo, not a resume you can send.

Check the refund terms

A refund window with a plain number of days is a good sign. "Contact support" with no number is not.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask about resume builder subscriptions in 2026

Is there a resume builder with no subscription?+

Yes. FreeCV has no subscription and no trial. The builder, the AI assistant, 20 templates and the PDF download are free with no account. The only paid product is PRO Lifetime, $19 once, a single payment that never renews. Checked on 2 September 2026.

Why do resume builders charge every four weeks instead of monthly?+

Because four weeks is 13 periods a year, not 12. A plan advertised as $25.95 costs about $337 a year, one more charge than a monthly plan would. Zety and Resume.io both bill this way.

What is the $1.95 or $2.95 resume builder trial?+

A low first payment that unlocks downloads for 7 or 14 days and converts to the full four-week price unless you cancel in time. Zety charges $1.95 for 14 days then $25.95 every four weeks. Resume.io charges $2.95 for 7 days then $29.95 every four weeks. MyPerfectResume and Resume Genius use the same shape at $23.95 every four weeks.

Which resume builders do not auto-renew?+

Novoresume sells fixed periods as one-time payments, $21.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter or $139.99 a year, with no auto-renewal. FreeCV has no recurring charge at all. Kickresume is a normal subscription that you cancel from the account.

Is FreeCV really free, with no catch at the download?+

Yes. The PDF is free at the end, every time, with no watermark and no account. Paid features are extras such as 19 PRO templates, DOCX export and designed cover letters, never the download itself.

What does FreeCV PRO cost, and does it renew?+

PRO Lifetime, $19 once, with a 24-hour refund. It never renews and never expires. It adds 19 more templates, DOCX, higher AI limits, headshots, portfolio themes and unlimited cover letters.

How do I check whether a resume builder is really free before I start?+

Open the pricing page and look for a download row. Then open the builder without paying, add one line, and press Download. If it asks for a card, an email wall, or offers a "free" text file instead of a PDF, it is a paid builder with a free editor.

I was charged by a resume builder after a trial. What can I do?+

Cancel from the account settings and keep the confirmation email. Zety and Resume.io both list cancellation in account settings and offer support by chat. If a charge arrives after a confirmed cancellation, dispute it with your card issuer with the confirmation attached.

Is Canva a subscription for resumes?+

No. Canva downloads resume PDFs free. Canva Pro, $18 a month or $144 a year, is a design subscription for premium templates and tools, not a resume paywall. The caveat with Canva is ATS parsing, not price.

Does a subscription resume builder make a better resume?+

Not by itself. The editor is the smaller part of the work. What earns interviews is content matched to the job ad, and FreeCV's assistant and ATS checker do that for free. Paid tools mainly sell more templates and convenience.

Can I keep my CV if I never pay on FreeCV?+

Yes. The PDF is yours the moment you download it. With a free account the CV is also saved online, and a portfolio link stays live at no cost.

Which is the cheapest paid resume builder in 2026?+

Among the paid plans compared here, Kickresume's yearly plan at $54 a year is the cheapest subscription, and FreeCV PRO at $19 once is the cheapest paid product of all, because it is paid once.
