Resume builder with no subscription:
what every builder really charges
Most resume builders are subscriptions wearing a $1.95 disguise. This page lists the real renewal price of each one, explains the four-week trick, and shows the one builder with no subscription at all.
Build a resume with nothing to cancel →No signup · free PDF · no trial · nothing renews
FreeCV is a resume builder with no subscription. The builder, the AI assistant, 20 templates and the PDF download are free, with no account and no trial. The only thing FreeCV sells is PRO Lifetime, $19 once: one payment, no renewal, no expiry, and a 24-hour refund.
Most of the category works the other way round. Zety, Resume.io, MyPerfectResume and Resume Genius let you build for free and charge at the download: a $1.95 to $2.95 trial that converts to $23.95 to $29.95 every four weeks. Four-week billing means 13 charges a year, so a plan that reads like $26 a month costs about $337.
Two paid builders deserve a fair mention. Novoresume sells fixed periods that never renew. Kickresume is a normal subscription with the cheapest yearly plan in this list. Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 2 September 2026.
What each resume builder charges after the first payment
The first price is what you see at checkout. The second is what you pay next. The third is a year.
Prices are the vendors' own US list prices on 2 September 2026. Regional prices differ by a dollar or two.
How the four-week plan works
Three mechanics, each legal, each designed so that the price you noticed is not the price you pay.
The low first payment
You see $1.95 or $2.95 and read it as the price. It is a trial. The real price appears in the small print under the button and in the renewal email.
Four weeks, not a month
The plan renews every 28 days. That is 13 renewals a year. A "monthly" $25.95 becomes about $337, one extra charge that no monthly plan would make.
Cancel with steps
Cancellation lives in the account settings and often passes through discount and pause offers before it confirms. Keep going until the confirmation email arrives, and keep that email.
FreeCV has no first payment, no renewal and nothing to cancel. That is verifiable in 30 seconds at freecv.org/builder.
How to check any resume builder in 60 seconds
Five things to look at before you type your first job title into anything.
Find the download row
On the pricing page, look for the word Download. If the free column says TXT, "build only" or nothing at all, the PDF is paid.
Read the line under the button
The renewal price and period sit under the trial price. "Every 4 weeks" means 13 charges a year.
Press Download before you invest time
Add one line and press Download. A card form, an email wall or a text-only file tells you everything.
Look for the cancel button
A builder that means well shows cancellation in account settings, in one or two clicks, with a confirmation email.
Check for a watermark
Open the downloaded PDF. A "made with" footer means the free file is a demo, not a resume you can send.
Check the refund terms
A refund window with a plain number of days is a good sign. "Contact support" with no number is not.
