SAP / ERP Consultant โ€” CV Example

A template for SAP consultants who lead S/4HANA migrations and turn process into a system that works.

โ† All Examples

What Does a SAP / ERP Consultant Actually Do?

An SAP consultant connects a company process to one integrated system: finance, procurement, sales, and HR. Demand is strong because of the wave of migrations from the legacy ECC to S/4HANA, alongside large digital-transformation programmes. The most in-demand modules are FICO for finance, MM for procurement, SD for sales, and SuccessFactors for HR, with ABAP on the technical side. The split matters: the functional consultant redesigns the process and leads testing and adoption, the technical consultant builds the integration and the code. A normal week runs on workshops, fit-gap analysis, testing, and post-go-live support. The role rewards real implementation experience, because a certificate alone does not carry a full-cycle project.

What Recruiters Look For

The module and implementation experience. "Led FICO across 4 full-cycle implementations and an S/4HANA migration" beats "SAP experience".

Key Skills to Include

Your core module (FICO, MM, SD, or SuccessFactors), S/4HANA migration, fit-gap analysis, testing, post-go-live support, and integration.

Common Mistakes

Listing the certificate with no real implementations, or blurring the functional and technical roles.

Formatting Tips

One to two pages. Start with the module, the number of implementations, and the certification. Name the industries and projects.

Top 5 Interview Questions โ€” SAP / ERP Consultant

1What is the difference between a functional and a technical consultant?
The functional consultant understands the process and configures it in the system and leads testing and adoption, while the technical one builds integration, enhancements, and code. I am functional in FICO with enough technical understanding to coordinate.
2How do you run an S/4HANA migration?
Start with an assessment of the current system and the gaps, then conversion, testing, a dry run, and post-go-live support. The migration is a risk project managed phase by phase.
3Walk me through a full-cycle implementation.
Requirements, design, build, test, go-live, then support. I have been through it more than once, and that is what clients look for before any certificate.
4How do you handle a gap between a requirement and standard SAP?
I prefer the standard solution where possible to limit customisation, document the gap, and propose a realistic alternative. Heavy customisation makes later upgrades painful.

How to Tailor Your CV

Consultancies, system integrators, and large enterprises want full-cycle implementation experience and S/4HANA migration capability. Put your main module, the number of implementations, and your certification near the top. Keep the terms in plain form: SAP, S/4HANA, FICO, MM, SD, ABAP, ERP.
