A template for legal professionals who win cases and protect client interests.
Lawyers advise clients on legal matters, draft documents, negotiate on their behalf, and represent them in disputes or transactions. The daily reality depends on your practice area — a corporate lawyer at a Magic Circle firm might be reviewing M&A transaction documents at midnight before a deal closes, while a family lawyer at a high street firm is advising clients through divorces and custody disputes. Most lawyers in private practice work in law firms and report to a partner. In-house lawyers sit within businesses and report to a General Counsel.

Being too vague about your experience. "Worked on commercial disputes" tells nothing. Specify case values, number of matters handled, and outcomes achieved.
Two pages maximum. Use a conservative, professional template. Lead with your PQE and practice area. Include education prominently as it matters more in law than most professions.
Figures in USD. Ranges reflect mid-level experience (3–7 years). Senior roles and major metro areas typically sit at the top of these bands.
Clifford Chance, Linklaters, Freshfields, and Sullivan & Cromwell are top-tier private practice employers globally. Magic Circle and Wall Street firms want top academic credentials, strong transaction experience on high-value matters, and the ability to handle client relationships independently. In-house roles at companies like Google, BP, or HSBC prioritise commercial pragmatism — the ability to give clear, actionable advice quickly rather than exhaustive theoretical analysis. Mid-market and boutique firms often value sector expertise (real estate, fintech, healthcare) over firm prestige, and offer earlier responsibility.
